No jargon. On the current windows R2 server we have set up windows Search service, installed Ifilters for text searchable PDF's and built indexes on those shares on this server. WE have then added those shares to windows 7 PC's libraries and we get great search results. We also have a xerox copier that is doing direct scan to network folder to the shares on that server using SMB. With all that said I am trying to figure out if I create my Data drive partition on the new windows Domain controller to be ReFS what is the implications of doing what I was doing with the R2 server??
With ReFS.. Does windows "windows Search service" feature in win work with it's own ReFS partition? Has anyone gotten a xerox copier to do direct scan to network to an ReFS partition share?
First of all i would recommend you to dedicated file server for you data, Install server with file service and use it as file server, you will gain in performance and security by dedicating domain controller and server for your data.
As for ReFS its architecture is designed to provide scalability and performance in an era of constantly growing data set sizes and dynamic workloads. In you case i think pro. Improve this question. CR Johan. CR 25 3 3 bronze badges. Add a comment. Active Oldest Votes.
Just uncheck the Prefer bit and change the Platform target to "x64" for the project. Improve this answer. Sign up or log in Sign up using Google. If that does not help, it might be possible that your PDF files do not have text in them. Some PDF files are just images without text.
For example, if you scan a document into PDF and do not run OCR on it, it might be just a picture of the original document. In this case, text will not be indexed. I will never understand why but in the end I rebuilt my 32 bit dell laptop from scratch and the pdf files can now be searched. I cannot search them on a mapped drive as I was able to with Windows XP because now they must be indexed and windows 7 will seems not to allow a mapped location to be indexed which must be done to make the pdf files searchable so I have had to move the files to the local drive.
My Windows 7 64 bit systems can search the mapped drives just fine without needing to be indexed. Again I will never understand why this works and the 32 bit machine does not. Hi DAC, This means to say i need to install fresh copy on my pc? Because my pc was a installed in an image. Might some components did not work well. This is helpful. But i tried this to one of my pc running on Windows 7 and im using outlook Or even the content of word doc no joy. I rebuilt the index for almost 48 hours, still no luck.
Any suggestion that you may add? Appreciate it. But I still cannot search for text in PDFs that are on our shared drive. Any idea why that might be or how to fix that? After Windows XP, Microsoft has removed an ability to index content of files on network shared drives from Windows Search.
